A Slice of Heaven

For anyone who likes beautiful celebration cakes that actually taste good instead of just being a concoction of artificial ingredients made to look pretty, you should check out A Slice of Heaven in Co. Kilkenny. Mary Mc Evoy who was head pastry chef in The Ormonde Hotel Kilkenny for over 7 years and prior to that Derry Clarke’s pastry chef at L’Ecrivan in Dublin is now running her own business making the most exquisite cakes and cupcakes.

I know I know cupcakes are everywhere but they are usually revolting, dry sugary things that make your teeth sing. Mary’s are just a taste sensation and also the artistry in decorating is just wonderful. See the picture below of a cake she made for my niece’s 21st birthday last week. This girl had just returned from a long stint train hopping all over Europe and that was enough inspiration for Mary to come up with this unique and highly personal cake that just brought magic to the party. Best of all it tasted incredible too! The photo doesn’t do it justice as the room was dimly lit for the dancing, but it was all sparkly from edible glitter and was absolutely beautiful. See some other pictures below, and Mary’s website is www.asliceofheaven.ie.
